In the readings, fantasmatic scenes are depicted as scenes where the individual’s mind succumbs to fantasy, transforming even every day activities. For example, in the reading In the Bedroom of the Countess, the boy’s curiosity and attraction toward the countess leads to pleasure even during the pain of the whipping. In many other aspects of life today, fantasmatic scenes blind individuals, creating a fantasy world for them to experience. One example that comes to mind is celebrity impersonators. Their whole goal is to live within this fantasy world of the celebrity, performing for the other. They go to great lengths, spending hundreds of dollars and hours of their time to be someone else, to find out who they really are. Many individuals make careers out of being impersonators.
